Gardaí in Letterkenny arrested a driver after they were caught under the influence of cannabis behind the wheel.
The arrest was made as part of An Garda Siochana’s National Slow Down Day operations, with numerous checkpoints in force across the county yesterday ahead of the last weekend before Christmas.
The driver was pulled over after being clocked by Gardaí doing 138kp/h in a 100kp/h zone outside of Letterkenny last night.
A subsequent roadside drug test also detected the presence of cannabis in the drivers’ system after his high-speed run.
A dozen other drivers were also caught speeding yesterday as part of the operation, with a van being taken off the road for having no tax and insurance as well.
Donegal Gardaí are again urging the public to slow down and never drive while under the influence of drink or drugs as Christmas approaches.
