100% Redress Party TD Charles Ward used his first speaking opportunity in Dáil Éireann to demand action for the 10,000 people affected by the defective concrete blocks crisis.
Ward, who was elected as the first TD from the 100% Redress party in November, said he will not rest until the government changes the redress scheme.
“The people of County Donegal sent me here with a mandate to fight for 100% redress,” Deputy Ward told the Dáil.
“We demand action. We need to hold those responsible to account.
“The Government must deliver a true redress scheme – not a grant but a scheme that is led by science.”
Deputy Ward said that the “time for half-measures is over” and pointed out the situation for thousands of families and his own family’s experience in a DCB home.
“My children sleep in damp, mouldy rooms every single day, as do tens of thousands of others in Donegal,” Deputy Ward said.
“The current scheme is the most expensive way we can build. We are splitting semi-detached homes. We are putting people onto the streets. They have nowhere to go. Some 10,000 people are affected.”
Deputy Ward added that it is not just homes that need immediate redress.
“We also need childcare facilities and leisure centres. A load of work needs to be done in Donegal. We are being abandoned. Donegal needs help.”
