A Letterkenny-based women’s wellness and fitness coach is giving back to her new community by hosting a series of fundraisers for Donegal Domestic Violence Services (DDVS).
Brianne McNamara from Canada, now based in Donegal, combined a self-defence class for women with a toy drive to both empower women in the community and bring festive cheer to families fleeing domestic abuse.
Through her business, Sweet and Spicy Fitness, Brianne works with clients in four countries and is on a mission to create a global collective of strong, empowered women making a difference in their own lives and communities.
Brianne’s core belief is that strong women lift each other up. By partnering with organisations like Donegal Domestic Violence Services (DDVS), she hopes to raise awareness about their vital work and provide support for women and children affected by domestic violence. “No one should have to live in fear, and it’s our duty to help other women,” Brianne says.
On Wednesday last, 20 women gathered for an empowering self-defence class, hosted by Brienne at K.O Fitness in Letterkenny to raise funds for DDVS.
The self-defence class was a true team effort. Shane Lundberg of Dragons Lair Letterkenny volunteered his time to teach practical and empowering self-defence techniques. Ryan O’Donnell, owner of K.O Fitness, generously provided the venue for the fundraiser.
The class was part of Brienne and the K.O Fitness crew’s wider Christmas initiative to support DDVS.
K.O Fitness is also running a toy drive to collect unwrapped toys for local families in need, with a donation box available at the gym for monetary contributions.
For those who missed the event, there are still ways to help:
- Donate Online: https://donegaldomesticviolenceservices.enthuse.com/pf/jessica-gallagher or Link in bio on Brianne’s instagram profile.
- Support the Toy Drive: Drop off new, unwrapped toys at K.O Fitness in Letterkenny by December 18th
Give Locally: Visit K.O Fitness to contribute to the donation box.
Every contribution helps DDVS continue their critical work supporting women and children in crisis.
Brianne shared her heartfelt thanks to all who are supporting the fundraiser: “It’s heartening to see the Donegal community come together to support such an important cause. Every donation and effort counts in making a difference for those who need it most.”
