Downings 0-04 v 0-12 Mungret St Paul’s
By Charlie Collins
Disappointment for Downings Ladies as they lose out in the All Ireland Junior Final.
In good conditions at Parnell Park in Dublin, Donegal and Ulster Junior Ladies Champions Downings took on Limerick’s Mungret St Paul’s in the All Ireland Final.
Two early points from Jayne Casey gave the Limerick ladies a good start, but points from Downings Lauren McBride and Caoimhe McLaughlin either side of a third Mungret point from Grainne McKenna left just one between them, 0-03 to 0-02.
The Limerick team then kicked three in a row from Niamh O Keeffe, Clare O Meara and McKenna to lead by four.
Lauren McBride was just wide with a great goal chance, but hit two frees to leave just two between them at half-time, 0-06 to 0-04 to Mungret’s.
It was one way traffic in the second-half as Mungret took control and Downings failed to register a score, missing a late penalty when trailing by eight points.
For Mungret Grainne McKenna added three points for a total of five, Jayne Casey brought her total to four by adding two and Aoife Morissey added their other point to give them a deserved eight point victory.
Disappointing for Downings Ladies but none the less an outstanding achievement to reach an All Ireland final and they can look forward to playing Intermediate Championship football in 2025.
