Gardaí in Donegal are today paying tribute to the late Garda Gary McLaughlin on the 15th anniversary of his passing.
The Leitrim native was stationed in Donegal when he was killed in the line of duty, following a crash in December of 2009 when his car was rammed.
Gary McLoughlin, son of Una and Noel McLoughlin, joined An Garda Síochána on 1st August, 2005. He served at Monaghan Garda Station during his training and on completion of same was allocated to Buncrana Garda Station, Co. Donegal in 2006.
On the night of Saturday, 12th December, 2009 Garda McLoughlin was on duty as the driver of the patrol car, accompanied by Garda Bernard McLoughlin.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, 13th December, 2009, they responded to a call that a motor vehicle was acting suspiciously. During the course of their patrol the suspect vehicle crashed into the Patrol Car seriously injuring Garda Gary McLoughlin. He was removed to Letterkenny General Hospital where he died on Monday, 14th December, 2009.
Today, Garda McLoughlin was remembered by his colleagues in An Garda Síochána in Donegal.
“Today, we remember a very dear friend and colleague, Garda Gary Mc Loughlin who sadly lost his life in the line of duty 15 years ago,” An Garda Síochána Donegal posted.
“Gary is never far from our minds and from the minds of all those who knew and loved him. He is deeply missed and will always be remembered.”
