Gardaí issue advice to Donegal shoppers to protect gifts from car thieves

Gardaí in Donegal are urging Christmas shoppers to take precautions against opportunistic thieves.

The Christmas shopping rush is now in full swing and people are picking up high-value jewellery, consoles and more in local stores.

But there is a chance that someone is watching the comings and goings of shoppers in a bid to steal goods from cars.

That is why we should leave the expensive gifts to the end of our shopping trips.

Gardaí have been conducting patrols of the shopping areas in Letterkenny this week and encouraging people to #ParkSmart and #ShopSmart.

The advice is:

  • Always double check that your vehicle is locked and that the windows are fully closed.
  • Try to park in well lit/secure areas.
  • Please do not leave any valuables such as cash, jewellery or expensive gifts in your vehicle.
  • Report any thefts or suspicious activity to Gardaí as soon as possible.
