Last night saw the first games in the new Donegal Women’s Winter League, with 12 games taking place last night.
The new 7-a-side competition got off to a great start, with over 120 players in total taking part in the inaugural games.
At the Aura, it was a very tight affair with a single goal separating the results, with Lagan Harps and Drumbar Utd the early league leaders securing two victories. Fanad Utd’s goal machine Michelle Doherty returned after 5 years and once again got on the score sheet.
In Ballyare, Letterkenny won twice, and there was the return of Orla and Gemma Boyle to football to play with Raphoe Town. The academy players of Kildrum Tigers turned out in force to see their mothers kick-off their league campaign, with Lauren Lynch scoring in both matches.
In Cappry, the home side were in flying form winning both games, with the battle of the night between themselves and Raphoe Town with a last minute goal for Cappry. A tough night for Deele Harps who took to the challenge and grew into the games and restricted the opportunities for their opponents.
Tonight (Monday 16th December) Lagan Harps, Cappry Rovers and Drumbar United will play at Cappry Park.
At Leck View in Letterkenny, Deele Harps, Kildrum Tigers, Fanad United Black, Letterkenny Rovers, Fanad United Red and Bonagee United will be in action.
Ballyare will host Raphoe Town Blues, Finn Valley and Raphoe Town Whites.
Matches kick off at 7pm.
