A Letterkenny man will stand trial for a serious assault.
A book of evidence was served on Corey McCarron when he appeared before Letterkenny District Court.
A Garda gave evidence of serving the book on McCarron, a 20-year-old of Leitir Ard, Letterkenny, at 12.36pm on Monday.
Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for the accused to be sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
McCarron is charged that he did intentionally or recklessly cause harm to Liam Lynch at High Road, Letterkenny, on August 28, 2021.
The charge is contrary to section 4 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
Judge Éiteáin Cunninagham made an order returning McCarron for trial. Judge Cunningham made a section 56 order, relating to tapes of interviews, and administered the alibi warning.
Legal aid was granted to solicitor Mr Rory O’Brien and two legal counsel were assigned.
Separately, Judge Cunningham refused jurisdiction for another serious assault charge against McCarron. Having viewed a medical report, which she said included an “anterior dislocation of a shoulder” to an injured party, Judge Cunningham refused jurisdiction. That matter was adjourned until January 13, 2025 to allow for directions from the DPP.
