In this week’s Letterkenny Athletic Club notes, the club mourns the passing of former member Charlie Fox, celebrates a successful Turkey Trot, and congratulates Teresa McDaid on leading the Irish team at the European Cross Country Championships:
Letterkenny Athletic Club was saddened to learn of the death of former member Charlie Fox.
Formerly of Beechwood Avenue in Letterkenny Charlie passed away in Homerton Hospital London in November.
A retired postman, Charlie joined Letterkenny A.C. with his brother Seamus shortly after it was established in 1972.
He was a member of numerous successful cross-country teams and ran several marathons.
His personal best was a time of 2 hours and 45 minutes which was posted in Limerick in the early 1980s.
A jovial and friendly character Charlie always maintained a keen interest in the fortunes of the club when he moved to England.
Letterkenny A.C. extends its sympathies to Charlies’ family, relatives and friends.
Charlie is pictured (right) running along Pearse Road in Letterkenny with Letterkenny A.C.’s Noel McCarron and double world cross-country champion and Olympian, John Treacy in the 1980s.
