Residents of Manorcunningham should expect to have water services back to normal by this evening, following a three-day outage since Storm Darragh.
Manorcunningham, Newtowncunningham, Burt and surrounding areas lost supply on Friday night due to a power outage affecting the local water pumping station.
Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly, who received an update from Uisce Eireann’s Regional Manager today, says that even though the power was restored yesterday, it wasn’t reliable and caused further issues with the water supply.
Cllr Kelly said: “The power is on now and the water is returning to all areas but there may be further outages as ESB are still having significant issues across the county.
“Workers are on the ground carrying out manual checks at reservoirs to make sure levels are going up.
“Water will be returning throughout the day,” Cllr Kelly said. “They (Uisce Eireann) are hopeful that everyone should have water back by 5-6pm this evening.”
Meanwhile, Tullygay, where residents have also been without water since Friday, is set to gain improved water pressure soon with the installation of a new pump at Rockhill.
“Uisce Eireann has told me that they are very hopeful that once the pump is installed it will keep the pressure elevated in houses,” Cllr Kelly said.
It is hoped that the new pump will be operational before Christmas, bringing much-needed relief to local residents.
“I am keeping the pressure on Uisce Eireann to get this pump installed and up and running as quickly as possible,” Cllr Kelly added.
