Letterkenny woman Cathy McGuigan had a dream come true last weekend when she shared the stage with the legendary Queen of Country, Philomena Begley.
Cathy, a proud Burma native, is currently working her way through a list of five dreams to accomplish before her 50th birthday.
And now she can tick off singing ‘Blanket on the Ground’ with her musical hero!
Cathy got the opportunity on Saturday night at Carol & Jimmy’s Christmas Cracker in The Burnavon Theatre, Cookstown. Organised by Carol Doey and Jimmy Cowan of the local community hub, the event featured special guests Paula McIntyre, Anne Marie McAleese, and a special appearance by Philomena Begley.
Carol had heard Cathy sing in another show in September and when she heard of her desire to sing with Philomena, she was only too happy to arrange it.
The experience brought Cathy’s mind back to her wonderful memories with her uncle, farmer Charlie Doherty from Dooballagh.
“I was absolutely delighted as I grew up listening to Philomena Begley and Susan McCann on cassette in my Uncle Charlie Doherty’s car when I was only 4 or 5,” says Cathy.
Other great goals on Cathy’s Top 5 for 50 list include taking a helicopter flight and recording a country song. After Saturday’s superb performance, we think she’s already halfway there!
