Letterkenny Music and Drama Group (LMDG) last night won the All Ireland One Act Drama Festival with their original play, ‘Cider Park.’
The play was written by Kieran Kelly, who also starred as ‘JP’ in the thought-provoking drama. Indeed, Kelly also won the Best Actor award for his role, while Andrew Tinney was awarded an acting scholarship for his efforts.
The winners were announced in the early hours of this morning at the finals in Nass, County Kildare. Ballybofey’s Butt Drama Circle came third with ‘A Matter of Rights’, also an original play written by Conor Malone.
“Massive congratulations to all involved with Cider Park on winning the All Ireland One Act Finals,” an LMDG spokesperson said.
“Huge congratulations, too, to Kieran Kelly in his Best Actor award and Andrew Tinney on winning the scholarship. Congratulations too on the many nominations. What a week for the LMDG – an All Ireland Award and finishing a hugely successful run of Shrek The Musical.”
Cider Park explores the implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Are any of us unique? Or are we all merely photocopies of what has come before? Is anything we say or do original? These are just some of the ramblings debated by friends JP and Georgie as they sup their cans in an old, abandoned playground known as ‘Cider Park’. When they are joined by the much older Ritchie, each of the three men are forced to confront their pasts, their present and their futures as they finally understand what it means to be ‘human’.
Directed by Michael Leddy, this thought-provoking and entertaining One Act play is brought to life onstage by Andrew Tinney, Kieran Kelly, and Cathal O’Gallchoir.
