A young man alleged to be part of a gang committing burglaries in the north west is to appear in court in Donegal tomorrow.
The man, aged in his 20’s, is expected to be charged at Donegal District Court tomorrow morning.
He was arrested along with two other men (one in 50s and one in 20s) on Friday, November 29, as part of a major operation targeting an organised criminal group suspected of committing burglaries of residential and commercial properties in the North-Western region and elsewhere nationwide.
The search, part of Operation Thor, took place in Dublin and Kildare and, as a result, four vehicles were seized, including a high performance blue BMW (main pic), and a substantial amount of suspected stolen property was also recovered. Operation Thor actively targets organised crime gangs and repeat offenders through co-ordinated crime prevention and enforcement activity.
Gardaí from divisions across the North-Western Region, supported by National and Regional resources, were involved in the operation. The suspects were subsequently detained at a Garda Station in the North-Western Region pursuant to Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. The other two men were to appear in court in Sligo at the weekend.
A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.
