Padraig MacLochlainn is heading back to the Dáil along with his running mate, Pearse Doherty, after being elected on the second count.
The Sinn Fein Chief Whip received 3,296 of Doherty’s 6,127 surplus to bring him over the quota to 13,095.
He was hoisted on shoulders after Returning Officer, Geraldine O’Connor, confirmed his re-election at 1:44 am
Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher, is now on 10,504 after receiving 480 of Doherty’s transfers. He is just over 2,200 short of meeting the quota and getting re-elected to the Dáil.
Charlie McConalogue now moves onto 8,127 after getting 108 transfers. Charles Ward (+374) is now on 7,236, while Thomas Pringle (+375) moves onto 5,664.
The third count will resume at 10am at the Aura Centre in Letterkenny.
