Counting has resumed at the Aura Centre in Letterkenny to distribute Pearse Doherty’s massive surplus.
The Sinn Fein Finance Spokesman was elected on the first count at 11:15pm with a huge 18,898 first preference votes.
With the overall quota being 12,771 votes, counting is continuing to see where Doherty’s 6,127 surplus goes to.
The party is hoping his running mate, Padraig MacLochlainn, will take at least 40% of those in order to get him elected. MacLochlainn is currently on 9,799.
However, Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher, who is on 10,024, is also expected to get a considerable number of Doherty’s transfers.
This is not expected to be confirmed until the early hours.
