Independent general election candidate Frank O’Donnell is asking for your No. 1 vote this Friday.
The Rathmullan native, now living in Letterkenny for over 41 years, is a former staff member of Unifi, Letterkenny University Hospital, former senior shop steward, community activist and volunteer in various associations and sporting groups.
Among his priorities is 100% redress for people affected by the defective concert block scandal.

Hi voters, my name is Frank O’Donnell, and I am running as your No. 1 Independent candidate in the upcoming general election.
I’m doing so because I believe passionately that I can help the people of our county, our towns, villages, and rural areas, our communities, future generations, the vulnerable among us, and those who need help and need a voice the most.
I will be a strong advocate and representative for all our people, fighting for their rights and entitlements, their issues, worries, and concerns.
Working on your behalf to the very best of my ability, ensuring the public’s needs are met in full, and that we all here in Donegal get the services, improvements, funding, and solutions that our county needs and deserves.
I am doing so on the platform of my track record of being heavily and continuously involved, giving a lifetime’s work as a community activist for many years on various community, heritage, resident, youth, sporting, educational, fundraising, and voluntary groups, organizations, and associations, including the Tidy Towns movement, along with my role as a trade union representative and a long-time peace commissioner.
Always willing to work and try to help, when and where I can, for the good of our communities, getting answers, finding solutions, and trying to enhance resources and facilities for the public’s benefit.
Now let me help you, your family, our county, our vulnerable citizens, our towns and villages, and every person in them.
Let’s give a voice back to:
- Our farmers (more recognition for our sheep and cattle farmers, who signed up for green policies, fair beef trade pricing in this sector now!)
- Our fishermen (get them their fair share, we need proper quotas in this industry).
- Our employers, our local and family businesses, and give more support for and greater value to employees in this country.
- Our health sector (better services, tackle the waiting lists, the ongoing A&E crisis, hospital overcrowding, patient and staff safety, GP services, more ICU and critical care beds are needed, staffing supports, recruitment attraction, and retention for our healthcare workers).
- Greater acknowledgement and respite for our family carers and dependents.
- Our mental health service (greater awareness, proper 24-hour staffing and cover, additional counselling, and family-centred supports).
- A dedicated day to appreciate and remember all our healthcare staff and all workforce members who put themselves at risk and kept our country going in our healthcare facilities, our shops, and our service sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Our infrastructure and roads network, road safety, including road safety courses in our secondary schools.
- Fast-track phase 2 of the Ten-T Project.
- Comprehensive Letterkenny bus service and depot.
- Provide additional disability and senior citizen parking in our shopping areas, hospitals, healthcare, and retail areas.
- Solutions to current driving test and N.C.T. waiting times.
- Car insurance inflation, currently sitting at 15%, needs to be addressed.
- Protect our defective concrete block homeowners, full redress.
- A voice on housing and mortgage accessibility, planning issues, planning problems along the N.56.
- Advocate for our business people and families providing employment in the tourism sector (9% VAT now).
- Protect the educational needs of our students, additional learning supports and youth programs in our schools, and a full review of the costs of childcare for parents and working families. Extra accommodation for students attending the A.T.U. is a must.
- More supports for our sports clubs and associations, building on the benefits of participation in sports for all programs, for the benefit of all our citizens physically, socially, and mentally.
- Rural regeneration, examine post office closures, our traditional turf cutting must go unhindered, internet & broadband coverage in rural areas.
- Revitalise Letterkenny Main Street and revitalise all streets throughout our county towns and villages through a more comprehensive vacant homes and derelict buildings scheme.
- Public safety (more Garda presence in our communities and on our streets), re-open closed Garda barracks.
- Tougher sentences for serious crime and repeat offenders.
- Greater information, easier processes, and accessibility on home adaptation grants and upgrades for our senior citizens and disabled citizens.
- The alarming rises in costs for our construction industry and for our self-builders, extend the timeline for the solar/PV panel grant scheme, help-to-buy scheme retention.
- Enhanced grant schemes and accessibility for greater roll-out of home upgrades for mortgage holders to avail of favourable green mortgage rates.
- The daily cost of living struggles and rising inflation costs facing householders.
- Work towards the abolishment of the Universal Social Charge for our workforce.
Let’s ensure the proper planning and resources are put in place in our schools, hospitals, housing, and services to meet the extra demands in these already overstretched areas.
Let’s get to work and deal with these issues.
Our government has become disengaged with the general public. Vote for me, as a person who understands the needs of the public and communities at the grassroots level, someone who has this county’s best interests at heart.
I have the vision, the work ethic, and the determination to be a strong representative, a strong voice for the people.
Do not waste your vote!
Elect someone who cares for our people, their employment rights, disability rights, their safety, human rights, social justice, and supports for our older citizens.
A candidate who believes our government must be accountable for taxpayers’ money, wastage, and overspending, and also be judged on how it treats the weakest and most vulnerable in society.
No one should be left behind!
I am a very approachable person, and I will negotiate and work hard for everyone and work with everyone for the betterment of our county and the benefit of all its people.
If you want a genuine, sincere, honest, hard-working, dedicated TD to represent you, a TD who has your best interests at heart, place your trust and place your No. 1 vote in me!
Vote Frank O’Donnell, No. 1 Independent Candidate!
A Strong Voice for Donegal.
Genuine, Sincere, Honest, Hard-working, Dedicated.
Thank you for your time, it is greatly appreciated.
