Letterkenny’s pop-rock band Arn. is channelling the discontent of a generation in their new song.
Talk is Cheap, out now, is a battle cry for those whose money doesn’t go as far as they’d like.
The catchy song, as described by frontman Aaron Coleman, is about careless governance.
As the lyrics go, ‘talk is cheap, but it’s the only thing I can afford’.
“The whole inspiration of the song was that there are so many people emigrating,” Aaron tells Donegal Daily.
“I could confidently say that if you spoke to anybody in Ireland they know somebody that has gone to Australia.
“Their primary purpose for going there is just to make money.
“When you think that Ireland is such an affluent country yet there are so many people leaving because they can’t afford to live here, it’s a massive hypocrisy that the government has done – the fact that you have to get young people to leave the country to make money abroad to be able to afford to live here reasonably. I think that’s a joke.
“The song came out of pure frustration, we had written the song a year ago, even though that sentiment has been there for years upon years and I think it’s starting to get to a boiling point, it’s more prominent today than it has ever been.”
Arn. ventures into new sonic territory with this first track, written and performed collaboratively with the full band.
Aaron is joined by Eoghan Rainey (guitar), Lorcan O’Donnell (bass), Ciaran McBrearty (keys/guitar) and Matthew Melia (drums).
After a single launch party in The Cottage last weekend, next on the calendar is a gig in the Soundhouse in Dublin on 2nd December.
Arn. will also support Aonair, the solo project of Brendan McGlynn, on his first Letterkenny live show at the RCC on 20th December. mokusla (Lou Rowland) will also support and tickets are out now.
