Convoy man in court on disorderly behaviour charge

A Donegal man has appeared in court charged with disorderly behaviour following an incident in the town at the weekend.

David Gardiner (30) of Greenfields in Convoy was charged on November 22 after police observed a crowd gathered while out on patrol around Waterloo Street in Derry.

Upon closer inspection, police found a group that included Gardiner of people involved in a verbal altercation that soon turned physical.

Police split the group up had to restrain Gardiner against a wall, asking him repeatedly to calm down as he continued to shout loudly.

Derry Magistrates Court heard that Gardiner had a history of domestic offences and had appeared earlier this month following a breach of a restraining order.

Police objected to bail as they said there was a high risk of reoffending.

Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman acknowledged that Gardiner had committed a number of offences in a short period but pointed out that this most recent arrest had nothing to do with his previous domestic incidents.

Bail was refused and he will appear again December 5.
