A Donegal man has been rewarded for his work on a podcast about a man who was the last Irish player in the NFL for almost four decades.
Donegal native and audio producer Lochlainn Harte took home the award for Best Sports Producer at the AUDIO UK Audio Production Awards, for his work on his solo podcast “Corny: The Last Irishman in the NFL.”
The podcast is a deep-dive about the story of Neil O’Donoghue, a Dublin native who made his way from soccer player to American Football star, forging a 9-year career in the NFL between the 1970s and 1980s.
“Corny” was the last Irishman to take to an NFL field for almost 40 years, before Wicklow’s Daniel Whelan made his debut for the Green Bay Packers in 2023.
Lochlainn said that he was honoured to be rewarded for his work on bringing the story of Corny to a wider audience.
“Winning this award is an incredible honour,” says Harte.
“‘Corny’ is a passion project that I poured my heart and soul into. To have it recognized by AUDIO UK is a dream come true and a testament to Corny’s incredible story.”
“Corny” has also secured nominations in the Best Sports Podcast, Best Documentary and Best Limited Run Series cateogries for the upcoming Irish Pod Awards which will be held in January.
“Corny: The Last Irishman in the NFL” is available on all major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Sports Social Network, and Spotify.
