The Government has opened its Humanitarian Assistance Scheme to all of those affected by Storm Bert.
The scheme is designed to help those who are living in properties directly affected by the storm, through flooding or other means.
Killybegs has been one of the hardest-hit areas in the country, with flood water seen rapidly rushing through Bridge Street overnight.
The Government’s Humanitarian Assistance Scheme is means-tested and designed to aid those whose homes have been damaged by flooding or other severe weather events, and are unable to pay costs for their essential needs, household items and structural repairs.
According to the Department of Social Protection, there are three stages to the scheme
Stage 1: Emergency support payments for food, clothing and personal items in the immediate aftermath of the event
Stage 2: The replacement of white goods, basic furniture items and other essential household items
Stage 3: Identifying what longer term financial support is required, including plastering, dry-lining, relaying of floors, electrical re-wiring and painting
Anyone who needs to access the supports can access the Department’s Emergency Community Welfare Service here.
