Government emergency funds to be made available after Killybegs flooding

A Fine Gael General Election candidate says that emergency funding from the Government will be made available today for all those impacted by the overnight flooding in Killybegs.

Many parts of the town were submerged overnight, with the flooding understood to have been caused by a fallen tree that had blocked a nearby river.

Flood water was seen flowing through Market Street as emergency services personnel worked through the night to assist locals and lower the water levels.

Fine Gael election candidate John McNulty has confirmed that the Government will be opening funds from the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme to help those in Killybegs affected by the floods.

“I’m heartbroken for everyone affected by the overnight flooding in Killybegs,” McNulty said in a statement.

“I’ve been assured by Government that the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme will open today so that emergency funding to those affected will be in place today.”

“I want to thank all local people, Killybegs fire service, the Killybegs coast guard and everyone else for their incredible work to help today.”
