The temperatures may have dipped over the last week, but the bidding was hot and heavy for an east Donegal farmer’s heifers at a market in Roscommon.
The local Roscommon Herald reports that ‘Diva’, a Champion Belgian Blue-cross heifer, was sold for €18,000 by Liam Dolan from Killygordon at the Midland and Western Winter Fair.
The flashy heifer caught the eye of judge Gareth Corrie, from County Down, as she claimed the overall Belgian Blue Championship in the pre-sale show.
A short-time later, Dolan fetched €7,600 for ‘Ruby’, another Belgian Blue-cross heifer.
The pedigree cattle shows are held regularly at the Carrick Showgrounds in Carrick-on-Shannon.
