Tir Chonaill AC’s Kelly McGrory and her Ireland 4×400 relay teammates were recognised at last night’s National Athletics Awards in Dublin.
The Laghey native was part of the team which claimed the prestigious Team of the Year award.
They earned the accolade after setting a national record and finishing fourth at the Paris Olympics. McGrory competed in the heats, helping them to secure their spot in the final.
Their year also included a silver medal win at the European Championships.
McGrory’s teammates included Lauren Cadden (Sligo AC), Rachel McCann (North Down AC), Sophie Becker (Raheny Shamrock AC), Phil Healy (Bandon AC), Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC), and Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport AC).
The Team of the Year Award was arguably the most debated award on the night, with the omission of the European gold-medal-winning mixed relay team from the award winners circle again pointing to what has been an exceptional year for Irish athletics.
Rhasidat Adeleke was crowned the 2024 Athlete of the Year at the 123.ie National Athletics Awards which took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry.
