A leading Donegal school principal has pleaded with voters to press the issue of his school’s planning application with candidates on the doorsteps.
With more than 1,000 students on its books, St Eunan’s College is one of the largest secondary schools in the county.
It has applied for an extension to its building for a number of years.
Now principal Damien Mc Croary has asked parents and local to make it a general election issue.
Posting on the college’s social media pages he said “With the announcement of the General Election, I would be most grateful if you would highlight St Eunan’s College’s long awaited building project.
“Canvassers from different political parties and Independents will be knocking on your door. While I acknowledge that you may have issues you want to discuss with them, I would be grateful if you could mention us and our long awaiting project.
“We are now entering our sixth year in this latest campaign for our extension and renovation. Planning has been passed and we are awaiting permission to proceed to tender. Any help you can give us to make this a reality is deeply appreciated.”
