Secondary school teachers from a number of unions will hold lunchtime protests across Donegal next Tuesday.
Teachers from the TUI and ASTI will be outside schools at 1:30pm on Tuesday the 19th of November, calling for a delay in the introduction of the new Senior Cycle curriculum.
The unions say that the services that students require will not be affected during that time, with 30,000 teachers expected to picket nationwide regarding the matter.
They have a range of issues with proposed changes to the Leaving Cert, with teachers wanting more time for the changes under the new accelerated Senior Cycle redevelopment process to be discussed.
Teachers say that while they are not opposed to the redevelopment of the Leaving Cert, the proposed changes “pose a threat to education standards, fairness and equality” according to the TUI.
Amongst the issues, teachers have raised concerns about inappropriate assessment arrangements, rushed subject specifications, insufficient preparation time, equity of access, insufficient training timelines and issues with AACs and AI.
