The voice of sport in Donegal has officially hung up his microphone.
Charlie Collins has been covering all things sport in County Donegal for four decades, and his dedication to his craft was reflected on the massive turnout celebrating his career last night.
“A Night For Charlie” saw figures from Donegal’s sporting, media and political circles all come together for a fabulous gala dinner at the Mount Errigal Hotel last night.
He has covered every major sporting event in Donegal for 40 years, from humble beginnings at Donegal Community Radio, where he would find his passion for sports broadcasting alongside his work as a psychiatric nurse.
Charlie then established himself as the voice of Donegal’s sporting scene as the Manager of Highland Radio, commentating on both of Donegal’s All-Ireland successes in 1992 and 2012 – and just about every other major sporting event in the county in that spell as well, including adventures with Finn Harps and many a Donegal International Rally.
Charlie continued to leave his mark after leaving Highland in 2013, setting up the Donegal Sport Hub before moving to Donegal Daily.
Huge thanks to Joe Boland from Northwest Newspix for all of these incredible snaps from an enjoyable and emotional night, for Charlie.
