As the days grow shorter, another visibility issue has been highlighted on the Four Lane in Letterkenny.
Councillor Donal Coyle has warned that a stretch of footpath at the Dry Arch Roundabout to the Clanree Hotel is “too black” to be seen by motorists at night.
At times, drivers have even accidentally mounted the path.
Cllr Donal Coyle warned that the issue is worse during times of heavy rain.
The Fianna Fáil representative asked the Council to contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland to either add reflectors or paint the footpath to improve its visibility.
The matter was discussed at this week’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford MD, at which Cllr Coyle was told that, following an assessment, the lighting in the area is deemed to be “to the required illumination specifications”.
Cllr Coyle refuted the findings and said he would continue to push for a solution.
He told Donegal Daily: “In theory, the lighting is sufficient. But in practice, it’s not. The fact is that on dark mornings and nights, in heavy rain, you cannot see the footpath because it’s too black.”
“There is a delegation going to meet with the TII at the end of the month. I am part of that and I will be raising it with the TII.”
