Cockhill Celtic’s Garbhan Friel last night won one of the most prestigious awards in football when he was crowned FAI Amateur Player of the Year.
He was presented with his trophy at the 34th Football Association of Ireland Awards during an event in the Aviva Stadium ahead of the UEFA Nations League game between Ireland and Finland.
Back in May, Friel was instrumental in Cockhill Celtic’s first ever FAI Junior Cup title and was Man of the Match in the final win over Gorey Rangers.
He has been described as the most consistent striker in Donegal over the past decade and has won a string of honours with the Inishowen club.
