Finn Harps Football Club’s new share options are now available to purchase on their website.
For as little as €25 per year (including a share purchase), anyone can now become a member and part-owner of the club, joining a community-driven, fan owned movement that ‘stands against the tide’ of private ownership in modern football.
In recent years, Finn Harps has made bold decisions, including rejecting sponsorship from gambling companies. Now, as many clubs turn to sovereign wealth funds, private equity, and venture capital, Finn Harps is committed to building a fan-owned club. Fan ownership has worked across the globe, with some of the biggest in the world being owned by their supporters.
“Our own fan owned model has served us well, but the time has come to reimagine how we do things to put the club on a sustainable footing and continue the growth we have seen in recent seasons,” a club spokesperson said.
Building Ireland’s Largest Fan-Owned Club
The immediate goal for Finn Harps is to reach 3,000 members this year to become Ireland’s largest fan owned football club. The club aims to connect with other fan-owned teams across Europe to show that fan ownership can foster sustainable success, even in competition with the biggest clubs.
“No matter where you are from in the world, we want you to feel part of the Harps family,” the club added.
As a part owner you will receive exclusive content and will be invited to participate in online meetings, where we will update you on clubs’ affairs and look forward to receiving your feedback.
More Than Football: A Pillar of the Donegal Community
Finn Harps is not just about the first team. As Donegal’s sole representative in senior football, the club operates 11 teams, including 8 men’s, 2 women’s and a mixed Down Syndrome futsal team. With over 200 players from towns and villages across Donegal and nearby counties, the club provides a pathway for aspiring athletes, some of whom have earned international caps and attracted attention from abroad.
The club has enjoyed partnering with great local organisations such as the Bluestack Foundation and Donegal Down Syndrome. The club launched initiatives like walking football and “football memories” to help senior members of the community stay active and socially connected.
“Finn Harps is committed to being a force for good in Donegal, both on and off the field.”
Supporting the Club’s Future in Challenging Times
Finn Harps is calling on the Donegal diaspora, the wider football community at home and abroad, to support the club during a challenging period to help us make this ambitious project a success.
“A recent UEFA decision will cut, and possibly eliminate, the solidarity payments to the club, redirecting it to teams in the top division,” the spokesperson added.
“This could undermine 20 years of voluntary work that has benefitted thousands of children in Donegal.”
