Man charged with endangering people after reversing car into Letterkenny off-license

A man who reversed his car into a Letterkenny off-license premises has appeared in court.

Liam Boyle pleaded guilty to endangering people following the incident at Carry Out off-licence on Pearse Road on May 12th, 2022.

The 27-year-old accused man of College Park, Letterkenny spoke only to plead guilty when he was formally arraigned before Judge John Aylmer.

Boyle was charged that he intentionally or recklessly engaged in conduct that he reversed a white Dacia Duster into the front of the premises while there were a number of persons present inside which created a substantial risk of death or serious injury or harm to another.

The charge is contrary to section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

Barrister for Boyle, Mr Seán McGee BL, asked that sentencing be adjourned. Mr McGee suggested that a probation and welfare report would be of use to the court.

Judge Aylmer adjourned the matter until the February session of Letterkenny Circuit Court and asked that the report include an assessment as to Boyle’s suitability for community service.
