Celebrity Chef Gary O’Hanlon has won a national award for his podcast, Dishing it Out, alongside Dubliner Gareth Mullins.
The Irish Food Writing Awards took place yesterday at the RDS in Dublin, where the best of Irish food and drink journalists, authors and creatives gathered to celebrate their work.
Gary, a native of Ramelton and executive head chef at The K Club, shared in the Irish Food or Drink Podcast prize judged by Nigel Barden and sponsored by Sharon Noonan.
‘Dishing it Out’ unites Gary and Gareth, executive chef at The Marker Hotel, to share a helping hand with home cooks over food frustrations. They tell tales from the kitchens and plenty of advice to inspire listeners to try something new.
The GoLoud Original podcast launched last year to give a behind the scenes feel of Chefs’ professional lives and love of all things food.
Also among the Irish Food Writing Award winners was young chef Lance Lumanlan, a student of ATU Donegal and Philippine national. Lance won the ‘Culinary Student Award’ for excellence in recipe writing.
Over 100 award finalists and guests attended the awards from throughout the island of Ireland, competing for the 21 awards on offer covering Irish food and drink journalism, cookbooks, feature writing, blogging, podcasting, photography and Instagram/TikTok.
Irish Food Writing Awards founder, journalist Suzanne Campbell, said “Yet again, we have been delighted and gratified by the number of entries we have received. It always an honour and a pleasure to work with our international judges and Irish food and drink sponsor companies. We could not do this without their support. When Paul O’Connor and I were inspired to set up the awards, having seen how vital food writing was during Covid, and the hard work of the food and drink community continues to educate, entertain and encourage the very best in hospitality and food production.”
