The HSE has announced that 13 short stay care beds have reopened in Falcarragh Community Hospital following two years out of service.
Bed capacity at the hospital has been limited since HIQA ordered refurbishment works in March 2022.
In September, Donegal Daily revealed that the hospital had been operating at 40% bed capacity as it awaited a sign-off from HIQA to reopen the wards.
Today, the HSE has confirmed that registration approval was received by HIQA to bring 13 short stay care beds back into use.
“These short stay beds will provide step down care to Older People following an admission in Letterkenny University Hospital and to those whom require convalescence, rehabilitation, or respite within the local catchment area,” a spokesperson said.
There are 11 long stay beds open at the hospital.
A major capital refurbishment program remains ongoing on a phased basis at the hospital to bring it into full compliance with HIQA registration.
