Twelve Donegal water projects have received funding approval of €5.9 million under a new cycle of the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme.
The Donegal group water schemes receiving funding are: Tory (€102,000), Ballymagaraghy (€142,681), Conwal (€237,471), Drumanail (€258,841), Drumaweir (€175,241), Glengad (€18,588), Lurganboyce (€1,034,564), Maghera (€2,508,276), Meenatole, Booragh, Breaghy, Newtonfore (€1,257,126), Milltown (€117,260), Moyles-Glenvar (€159,060), and Dunlewey (€48,000).
Donegal received the fourth highest allocation in this latest investment announcement, says Donegal minister, Charlie McConalogue.
“I am very conscious of the need to protect our water sources and ensure the highest standards in water treatment. I also want to ensure that our rural communities have the benefit of high-quality infrastructure and water services. I have no doubt that the investment announced today will help improve these water services which will continue to support and encourage people to live and work locally in rural Ireland,” Minister McConalogue said.
Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly said he was absolutely delighted for the people in Conwal and Milltown Newmills.
“These monies will now be used to secure a much need reliable and sufficient water supply by carry out works and upgrades of a new pipe,” he said.
“I’m delighted for the residents in these areas as they have suffered for a long time with water issues. This is something I have pushed hard for over the last few years and it’s great to now have these funds secured. I want to thank the residents in these areas for there patience and I can assure them that I will continue to keep the pressure on to ensure these much needed works are carried out as soon as possible.”
