Letterkenny’s Conor Duffy is celebrating one year at MasterCard in Dublin.
The past year has been one of learning, growth and collaboration for Conor as he develops his career as a Software Engineer with the international tech giant.
Conor’s path to the fast-growing world of FinTech began in his hometown of Letterkenny at ATU Donegal.
Fresh out of his Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Computer Science, he landed a coveted spot in Mastercard’s Launch Program in Dublin.
“I have greatly enjoyed this experience, and I could not have got to where I am now had it not been for the Computer Science degree I obtained from ATU,” he said.
Ahead of ATU Donegal’s Open Day on Thursday 14 November, Conor’s career milestone highlights the forward-thinking degrees that are available closer to home than some may think.
“It was perfect to have my college in my hometown. It made travelling for college very easy,” said Conor.
The Computer Science degree at ATU Donegal is a three-year programme that provides a broad-based computing education. The curriculum includes modules that are designed to equip graduates for the demands of companies in the growing ICT private sector.
Conor said: “I enjoyed many of the modules we did as a part of our course, especially the AI & Machine Learning Module, and the Data Analytics module. These were exciting as many of our assignments were open ended and we got to choose our specific fields of research, meaning we could incorporate our everyday interests into our work.”
Conor’s favourite aspects of the course were the collaboration and career advice.
“I enjoyed the collaborative aspect of the course, as I had good friends with me in the course, there was a great atmosphere of everyone helping each other and contributing together on group work,” he said.
For other prospective students considering their third-level options, Conor recommends attending Open Days such as the event in ATU Donegal Letterkenny campus on Thursday 14 November.
“Open Days provide an excellent opportunity to explore the campus, to gain insightful introductions to many of the courses that are available, and will hopefully inspire students to make informed decisions about their education that will eventually benefit and contribute to their career aspirations.”
