A teacher has raised an amazing €3,275 for the Irish Cancer Society through running the Berlin Marathon.
Glenties native Veronica McLoone took on the challenge last week, accompanied by her daughter Amelia for support.
A teacher at PCC Falcarragh, she had plenty of support from the school community in raising the funds to go to Germany and run for the Irish Cancer Society.
Veronica says that she wanted to raise money for them as cancer is a disease that has touched so many people’s lives in one way or another.
She also mentioned the impact cancer has had on her family, with her sister having recovered from the disease, and a cousin of hers also going through a battle with cancer currently.
A member of Rosses AC, Veronica says that while she “won’t ever break any records in terms of time,” she loves running – Berlin marking her fifth marathon completion, and her first outside of Ireland.
“I feel very privileged that I got the opportunity to run and raise money for such a worthy cause,” she told Donegal Daily.
“I was overwhelmed by the support from my family, friends, colleagues and students.”
