Donegal Mountain Rescue pockets unclaimed money from Garda Station

November 5, 2024

Donegal Mountain Rescue Team will benefit to the tune of over €500 from unclaimed monies handed into Letterkenny Garda Station in the last year.

Letterkenny District Court heard that various sums of money and wallets had been handed into the station.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that no-one has claimed the sums.

In total, €469.22 and £30 sterling was the subject of an application for forfeiture to the State.

Sergeant Collins said that all monies in respect of the application exceeded one year and one day. Sergeant Collins suggested that the money be given to the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said she was satisfied that every effort had been made in relation to the funds and granted the order as sought.
