A vibrant initiative focused on exploring global myths and legends had a successful film premiere in Letterkenny last week.
Sponsored by Creative Ireland and supported by the Arts Service of Donegal County Council (DCC), the ‘Myths and Legends’ project, led by artists Eve Li, Sean Doogan, and Ciaran McCann from the Re-Act collective, united participants from various backgrounds through a series of engaging storytelling workshops.
Andrew McNulty, the Arts and Cultural Diversity Officer at Donegal County Council, shared his enthusiasm: “We were excited to create a space where different communities could come together to share their stories. This project not only sparked creativity but also fostered connections through the art of storytelling.”
Workshops were held in Falcarragh, Dobhar, and Lifford, inviting participants to explore the myths and legends within their own cultures. The facilitators opened each session with tales from Ireland, England, and China, encouraging participants to exchange their own stories.
This creative environment allowed individuals to share their narratives while learning from each other, enhancing understanding and appreciation of Donegal’s diverse cultural heritage.
The project reached its peak with a public screening of nine short films at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny on Thursday, October 31st. Attendees gathered to celebrate the exciting, dramatic and sometimes wacky stories.
‘Myths and Legends’ encouraged cultural exchange and strengthened community bonds. The screening highlighted the rich heritage and creativity of the participants, showcasing the connections that storytelling fosters.
