Science Week 2024 takes place in venues across Donegal from 10th-17th November, with events for children and adults alike on the theme of regeneration.
A sensory coach experience (pictured), LEGO club, garden bird talk and many more free events will take place in Donegal. See the full programme here.
The week-long programme is part of Science Foundation Ireland’s efforts to promote and celebrate the fascinating world of science.
The aim is to encourage school children to engage with science in a fun and interactive way, and to promote the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) to everyday life.
Science Week 2024 will explore the theme of regeneration. From developing new solutions for health and healing, to developing new ways of understanding our world, it is time to reimagine our approaches and grow our shared strengths.
As a library service, it is our mission to encourage school children to engage with science in a fun and interactive way and promote awareness and understanding of the importance and relevance of STEM to everyday life.
We hope our festival with themes of discovery to conservation, emotional resilience to climate justice, children can learn about some of the research that is being pursued in aid of regeneration of our shared planet. With amazing anecdotes, case studies and figures they will learn that if we all continue to work together, things can only keep getting better and better.
Belinda Glackin, Science Week Coordinator for Donegal County Council Library Service, said: “through our events, we hope to draw children’s attention to the important ideas about what scientists do by delivering experiences that stimulate a child’s natural curiosity and inquisitiveness.”
All primary schools in Donegal will receive an electronic copy of our brochure. Although, most events take place during school hours, they are open to home schools and the public.
