A man will go before the Central Criminal Court on 27 historical sex charges.
The man, who is aged in his 60s and has an address in County Donegal, appeared before Letterkenny District Court.
The accused cannot be named for legal reasons to protect the identity of the alleged victim in the case.
He has been charged with 27 counts of indecently assaulting a woman. He is also charged with three counts of raping a woman.
The charges, which related to alleged offences in the 1970s, are contrary to Common Law.
A Detective Garda gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the man.
Sergeant Gerard Dalton told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that the accused go on trial and be forwarded to the present sitting of the Central Criminal Court.
Noting the DPP directions, Judge Éiteáin Cunningham made an order returning the accused for trial.
Judge Cunningham made a section 56 order, relating to videos of interviews and administered the alibi warning.
Legal aid was granted with two counsel, one senior and one junior, assigned.
A publication order, preventing the man from being named, was granted and the accused was remanded on continuing bail.
