A man who died in a house fire in Kilmacrennan yesterday has been named locally.
The victim was Phil McGettigan who lived alone in the townland of Casheleenan.
The late Mr McGettigan was a farmer who was well-known in the local area.
Mr McGettigan was a well-regarded sheep dog trainer.
He was 83-years-old.
Mr McGettigan was predeceased by his wife Susan, his parents Bridget & Johnny, brother John Joseph and sister Margaret.
He is sadly missed by his daughter Mairéad, sisters Josephine and Kathleen, brother Willie, nieces, nephews, great neighbours and good friends.
Gardai and the emergency services discovered the remains of Mr McGettigan at his home yesterday afternoon following a tragic house fire.
Gardai have not released details of the incident.
Mr Mc Gettigan’s remains were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post mortem was carried out.
Phillip’s remains will be reposing at the Eternal Light Chapel of Rest, Mountain Top, Letterkenny from 5pm to 7pm today 1st of November.
Followed by removal to the residence of his daughter Mairéad 19 Beinn Aoibhinn, Letterkenny.
Phillip’s requiem mass will take place in St. Columba’s Church, Kilmacrennan on Sunday the 3rd of November at 11am followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
