A Halloween bonfire in Killygordon ignited serious safety concerns last night as a large crowd gathered on Dromore bridge.
The bridge over the River Finn was blocked to traffic with reports of up to 70 people gathered.
Gardaí received a report of the incident at around 9pm and called to the area to disperse the large crowd that had gathered.
While the bonfire is said to be a local tradition, it has ignited anger among some residents.
“Tradition or destructive nuisance?,” one person asked Donegal Daily.
Local Councillor Patrick McGowan condemned the incident as vandalism and an attack on the local community.
He urged anyone with information to come forward, stating: “Those who carried out this are criminals and anyone who has any knowledge of anyone who was involved or witnessed this incident has a obligation to contact the Garda or anyone else in the community.
“This can be done confidentially, giving as much details as possible.”
