A walker had to be rescued as part of a multi-agency operation yesterday on Errigal Mountain.
Emergency services were tasked to the scene after 1pm, to attend to a woman who had suffered a leg injury and was in severe pain.
The Rescue 118 helicopter was scrambled, but had to return to base due to deteriorating weather – leaving the task fully up to rescuers from the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team.
According to DMRT, their team secured the casualty, who was deemed stable but in severe pain with a lower leg injury.
After wrapping the casualty in warm layers due to conditions on the mountain getting very cold, she was secured to a stretcher and the team began to descend down the mountain.
The patient was transferred to an awaiting ambulance at the foot of the mountain, with emergency responders being stood down just before 7pm.
In a statement, the DMRT said it was “a fantastic outcome to safely extract this casualty from the hill. Well done to all involved and we wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”
