A team of “Mothers and Others” from St Mary’s Convoy will make history next week as they travel for their first international tournament.
Formed in 2009 under the LFGA Gaelic for Mothers and Others (G4M&O) programme, the St Mary’s team is the longest-running in the county under the initiative.
With approximately 24 members aged anywhere from 25 to 60 years old, and from all denominations and walks of life – the team provides some much-needed “me” time and physical activity weekly.
The St Mary’s team was the only one in Donegal selected to join nine others for the G4M&O Festival of Football Tournament, being hosted by Barcelona Gaels GAA next weekend.
They will take off off for Barcelona on Thursday, with the tournament also providing a fantastic opportunity to meet other women who love the sport and community that Gaelic games provide.
Under the management of coach Mark McCarron, the ladies will take on teams from Midleton, Magheracloone and Donoughmore.
The team was able to make the trip after a number of fundraising events, with the team wishing to thank all of the businesses and personal sponsors who helped St Mary’s G4M&O make it to Spain.
