Gardaí say a driver caught in Manorcunningham had one of the highest speeds recorded across Saturday and Sunday of this Bank Holiday weekend.
The driver was caught driving at 122 km/h through a 100 km/h zone on the N13 at Maghera Beg in Manorcunningham.
That’s in addition to a spate of drivers caught above the limit in Donegal on Saturday, including one driver found to be 57 km/h over the speed limit in Quigley’s Point.
That detection was one of 136 speeding motorists caught in the 24 hour period between Saturday and Sunday morning.
A total of 79,742 vehicles were checked for speeding during that time period according to Gardaí.
One of the most extreme speed violations this weekend was found in County Meath, when a driver was caught speeding at nearly twice the speed limit.
The motorist was detected drving at 167 km/h in a 80 km/h zone in Castletown.
In a statement, Gardaí reminded motorists to slow down and drive safely across the rest of this Bank Holiday weekend.
