Donegal artist Kevin Sharkey has announced plans to run for election with a strong stance on immigration issues.
The famous artist, who was raised in Killybegs, will run as an Independent candidate.
He told the Irish Mirror: “There are many problems in Ireland but for me the main one is mass immigration.
“The government is essentially allowing a small percentage of the immigrants that are coming to the country illegally to make it bad for all the other ones who come here legally and pay their taxes and raise their children and contribute.
“We need to have this conversation.”
Sharkey sought to become nominated in the 2018 Irish presidential election, hoping to be the country’s first Black president, but pulled out a month before voting day.
Adopted as a baby by the Sharkey family in Killybegs, Co Donegal, Kevin has an Irish birth mother and a Nigerian birth father. He was born in a mother and baby home and adopted at six months old. He is now based in Dublin.
