Donegal Gardaí have issued their usual safety appeal to all road users ahead of the upcoming Halloween Bank Holiday weekend.
The long weekend usually brings a higher volume of traffic onto the roads and with this comes an increased risk of collisions.
“We ask all road users to please use the roads responsibly,” stressed Garda Claire Rafferty.
“Gardaí will be out on the roads over the weekend conducting high visibility checkpoints and speed checks. The last thing that anybody wants is for a tragedy to occur on our roads. We ask every road user to act responsibly regardless of how they choose to travel and in doing so they will help save lives.”
Drivers are urged to slow down, wear their seatbelt, ensure that their passengers are wearing seatbelts and not to drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Do not use/hold your mobile phone while driving.
“Remember, if you have been drinking you may not be safe to drive the morning after. Don’t risk it,” Gda Rafferty added.
Always be on the look-out for cyclists and pedestrians and drive at a safe speed. The clocks will change on Sunday, October 27, and that means that we will be facing into the dark evenings and dark mornings. Please remember to wear a high visibility vest if going walking, running or cycling. Ensure that drivers can see you clearly.
