A mystery buyer has snapped up a historic Georgian residence near Ballybofey, just four months after it hit the market for almost €2 million.
Edenmore House was built around 1771 by Captain John Cochrane and remained in the family until 1954.
A meticulous refurbishment in the early 1980s, by renowned architects De Blacam and Meagher, ‘seamlessly integrated’ modern amenities while preserving the home’s historic character.
It has since been immaculately maintained into the modern day and was placed on the market in June with a price tag of €1.95 million. According to the auctioneers, Rainey Estate Agents, the spectacular property has gone ‘sale agreed’ in recent days.
The new owner will also receive 90 acres of land surrounding the picturesque estate in the townland of Edenmore, on the banks of the River Finn.
The historic home was previously owned by the late Peter Murphy, a former solicitor, and his wife Nuala.
They maintained and refurbished the stunning 533 square metre (5,742 sq ft) residence over the years, with modern amenities fitting in with the character one would expect from a stately Georgian-era home.
A total of six luxurious bedrooms lie within, as well as an expansive dining hall and kitchen.
There are also an array of equestrian facilities on the grounds of the estate, including a fully equipped stable yard with eight stables, a tack room, and an enclosed concrete yard. There is also a former sand arena on the grounds that has the potential to be refurbished.
Prime agricultural land on the estate also creates a sizable potential for growth for the buyer, with a pond and woodlands also making the picturesque views that much better.
