Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning for County Donegal and several other counties as Storm Ashley is set to arrive this weekend.
Storm Ashley is the first named storm of the 2024/25 winter season, and Met Éireann are warning of severe winds and potential impacts across Sunday.
The status orange warning for wind comes into effect from midday on Sunday, and will be in effect until 9pm that night – when it is expected to be downgraded to a status yellow warning.
An orange wind warning is in place for Donegal, as well as counties Clare, Galway and Mayo.
Met Éireann say that Storm Ashley will bring very strong and gusty south to southwest winds, coupled with high spring tides in coastal areas, as well as a risk of coastal flooding and large coastal waves
Due to the high winds, travelling conditions are expected to be very difficult, with loose objects being displaced and the potential for fallen trees also.
Potential damage to power lines, power outages and additional damage to already weakened structures is also being anticipated as Storm Ashley arrives.
