Woman, 25, charged after Ballybofey stabbing incident

A woman appeared in court last night charged in connection with an incident in Ballybofey during which a young man received stab wounds.

Nadia Blake appeared at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

The 25-year-old, with an address at Booragh, Ramelton is charged with both assault causing harm and theft.

Ms Blake did not speak during the hearing before Judge Ciaran Liddy.

Detective Garda Cathal Feely gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution but said that Ms Blake made no response when charged.

She is charged that on October 16th, 2024 at Navenny Street, Ballybofey, she assaulted one Stephen Doherty causing him harm.

The charge is Contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

She is also charged that on the same date and at the same location she did steal property to wit a 50 inch television, a Playstation 4 console and controller and a portable speaker, the property of Stephen Doherty.

The charge is Contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.

Gardai said they were not objecting to bail but asked for a number of bail conditions.

They include that Ms Blake reside at her home address, that she stays out of Ballybofey and Stranorlar, that she signs on three times a week at Letterkenny Garda Station and that she has no contact with Stephen Doherty.

The charges follow an incident at Navenny Street in Ballybofey on Wednesday night when Mr Doherty allegedly received a number of stab wounds.

He was rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment but his condition is not understood to be life-threatening.

In a follow-up operation local Gardai arrested a man and a woman.

One of those arrested was Ms Blake who was represented by solicitor Mr Rory O’Brien.

Judge Ciaran Liddy agreed to release the accused on her own bond.

The case was adjourned until November 18th for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
