A special mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church, Ramelton, tomorrow morning to pray that missing kayaker, Paul Buchanan, will be found.
The alarm was first raised when Mr Buchanan, a popular chartered accountant who is in his 50s, failed to return after setting off from Magheragallon pier in Gweedore at around 5pm on Thursday, October 3. His kayak was found two days later, nearly 5 km north of Tory. The Irish Coast Guard confirmed last week that their operation has moved to a search and recovery mission.
Local Parish Priest, Fr Michael Carney, said tomorrow’s mass, which will take place at 10am, will also be offered for Mr Buchanan’s wife, Bernadette, and sons Mark and Martin, as well as his parents.
“Maybe if you have half an hour free, you could come and pray in solidarity with Bernadette, her sons and Paul’s mum and dad and family,” he said.
The major multi-agency search operation has involved shoreline searches, boats, helicopters and drone searches.
The agencies involved include Bunbeg Coast Guard Unit using Boat, Drone and Shore Searches, Arranmore RNLI All Weather Boat, Tory Island Coast Guard, Lough Swilly RNLI, R118 Sligo based helicopter, R116 Dublin based helicopter, R199 UK Prestwick based helicopter and Aer Corp Casa.
